Abstract

Common scab of potato adversely affects the market and the economic value of potato due to presence of obnoxious black spots on the skin of tuber. In the present study twelve potato cultivars (SH-692, SH-704, Cardinal, FD-71-1, Sante, FD-51-5, FD-96-1, FD-63-1, FD-70-1, FD-8-3, FD-8-1, Astrax) were screened against common scab disease caused by Streptomyces scabies in experimental research area of Department of Plant Pathology University of Agriculture Faisalabad during 2011-12 under randomized complete block design (RCBD). Among these twelve potato cultivars SH-692, SH-704 and Cardinal were least susceptible and showed disease incidence 4.80%, 6.80%, 8.80% and scab index (8.20, 10.20, 11.80 ) respectively. Highly susceptible cultivars were FD-96-1, FD-63-1, FD-70-1, FD-8-3, FD-8-1 and Astrax and showed disease incidence 37.5%, 39.80%, 46.60%, 53.80%, 53.50% and 59.80% respectively.
